Cyprus Association of Registered Speech-Language Pathologists
The Cyprus Association was founded in 1990 and accepts members from the speech-language pathology profession. Student membership is also available. Current membership stands at 290 professional members and 3-4 postgraduate students.
The Association has several committees: CPLOL, Ministry of Education, Private Sector, Law, Grants, Education, Literature, Resources, Deontology.
The main goal of the society is to promote continued education to speech-language pathologists of Cyprus. It also aims to establish close relationships among speech-language pathologists and promote an ethical approach to the science. Since the occupation of speech-language pathology is relatively new in Cyprus, the Association also aims to educate Cypriots about speech and language therapy issues. It also aspires to add value to the Cypriot society by creating and establishing therapy tools and tests in the Greek language and to encourage its colleagues to involve themselves in research.
Scientific events schedule for 2011: In progress – to be advised. Due to the recent election of the new Board, no scientific events have yet been scheduled for 2011.
Egyptian Society for Phoniatrics and Logopedics
The Egyptian Society for Phoniatrics and Logopedics was established in 1976. The profile of its 96 members includes phoniatricians, logopedists, psychometrists and clinical psychologists. A current project of the society is the development of a periodical for the society.
The main goals of the society are:
– Increasing public awareness of the scope of human communicative disorders and the needs of the communicatively disabled patient.
– Promoting and developing the educational programs in the field of human communicative sciences and disorders.
– Promoting the research activities – field, clinical, and experimental domains – in the field of communicative sciences and disorders.
– Enhancing international contact and relations in the field of human communicative sciences and disorders professionally, educationally and clinically.
– Promoting the cause of communicatively disabled persons regarding work placement.
– Promoting the spread and development of remedial, curative and preventive clinical services in Egypt and in neighboring countries.
Scientific events scheduled for 2011:
The First Annual National Meeting of Phoniatrics on the 4th and 5th of May, 2011, in Cairo, Egypt.
Flemisch Association for Speech-Language Therapists
The Flemisch Association for Speech-Language Therapists was founded in 1979 and is a single profession society, accepting speech-language therapists and students as members. Other professions may be awarded honorary membership. The Association currently has 1658 members.
Departments and/or committees within the Association include: Centre for Continued Education, Editorial Board of the journal “Logopedie”, Government representation via specific internal and external committees, various content-related and profession-related commissions.
The main goals of the society are:
– Providing services and benefits for all speech-language therapists
– Providing representation on the different levels in society
– Providing information regarding practice and organization of the profession
– Providing continuous education and life-long learning

German Society of Phoniatrics & Pedaudiology (DGPP)
The German Society of Phoniatrics & Pedaudiology was established in 1983. The profile of the society’s 273 members includes medical specialists in phoniatrics and pedaudiology, physicians seeking further education in the areas of phoniatrics and pedaudiology, and other professionals who are scientifically or practically interested in phoniatrics and pedaudiology. The society has a number of workgroups in areas such as Universal Newborn Hearing Screening, Speech and Language Development in Children, Hearing Aid Provision, Auditory Processing Disorders. A special project in development is in the area of screening methods for disturbances in speech and language development, stuttering and swallowing (in the elderly).
The main goals of the society are:
– enhancing science and teaching regarding phoniatrics and pedaudiology
– enhancing further education and advanced training concerning phoniatrics and pedaudiology
– enhancing medical supply of patients with voice, speech, swallowing disorders and children with hearing impairment
– public relations

Japanese Association of Communication Disorders
The Japanese Association of Communication Disorders was established in 1985. The profile of the association’s 1361 members includes speech-language pathologists, audiologists, medical specialists, scientists and school teachers.
The association has the following committees: Public Relations, Academic Affairs, Regulations, Annual Conference, and an Editorial Board. Special projects under development are the Special Interest Groups for developmental language disorders, fluency disorders, severe neurogenic language disorders, conversation analysis, and music therapy.
The main goals of the society are:
– Promoting research on speech, language and hearing processes
– Improving the quality of support for persons with communication disorders
– Empowering and supporting professionals related to human communication

Phoniatric Section of the Polish ENT Society
The Phoniatric Section of the Polish ENT Society was established in 1965 and is a single profession society, accepting phoniatricians as members. It currently has 200 members.
The main goals of the society are:
– participation in realization of education program in phoniatrics & audiology
– organization of scientific annual conference and workshops
– close cooperation with logopedics society
– participation in organisation of annual conference Acoustics in Phoniatrics and Audiology
– activity in phoniatric European organization – Union of European Phoniatricians (UEP)

Russian Public Academy of Voice
The Russian Public Academy of Voice is a multiprofessional association established in November 2007. The profile of its 400 members includes phoniatricians, otorhinolaryngologists, speech-language pathologists, vocal and speech teachers, as well as specialists of allied subjects (speech therapy, occupational pathology, occupational medicine, hygiene, neurology, psychiatry, endocrinology, psycholinguistics, psychology and acoustics). The society has the following departments: Vocal Teachers Department, Speech Teachers Department, Phoniatrics and Speech-Language Pathologists Department and the Interdisciplinary Department.
Some of the mains goals of this association are to provide assistance to the development of scientific researches in the field of physiology, phonation, phoniatrics, vocal and speech pedagogy; to improve the phoniatric organization; to introduce advances in the field, to participate in international scientific programs and projects; and to contribute to the development of modern methods of training and specialization of professionals in the areas of phoniatrics and voice-training.

Speech-Language-Hearing Association of Taiwan
The Speech-Language-Hearing Association of Taiwan was established in 1986 and has a total of 1,335 members, including 884 professionals, 144 students, 292 related members and 15 corporate members. Membership includes speech-language pathologists; audiologists; speech, language and hearing scientists; and professors or tutors in the field of speech, language and hearing; as well as researchers and academics in related fields, and medical professionals. Affiliate membership is also available to individuals or groups who reside abroad and who are not exclusively citizens of Taiwan.
The society has several committees, such as Project Management, Specialty and Certificate, Medicare Planning, Ethic Standards, Finance, Edit & Publication, Promotion, Intellectual Property Management, Exam & Accreditation, Regulation, Academic and Legislation.
The goal of the association is to provide quality service to citizens of Taiwan and to enhance professional expertise in the field of communication science in Taiwan, and to have academic exchange with other professions in Taiwan and internationally. It also has as its goal to research and create assessment and diagnostic tools and therapeutic instruments for speech-language and hearing disorders that best meet local demands.
The association’s next scientific event is the 2011 SLHAT Convention, January 8-9, Taipei, Taiwan.
