Gisele Oliveira, Ph.D. SLP (March 15th, 1971 – March 31st, 2016), member of the Voice Committee, representing both Brazil and the USA, passed away after fighting ferociously against a cancer. Dr. Oliveira received her bachelor’s, master’s (2006) and PhD (2009) in human communication disorders from the “Universidade Federal de São Paulo” (UNIFESP), Brazil, and completed her postdoctoral fellowship (2011) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She was a professor and co-partner with Dr. Mara Behlau of the Graduate Specialization Program at “CEV – Center for Voice Studies”, Sao Paulo, Brazil. During the last 3 years she was also assistant professor at TORO University, New York, USA. She was a loyal friend, a dedicated professor and a wonderful mentor to young students. Dr. Oliveira has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, with over 60 papers, and 10 book chapters and books. She was an editorial board member of The Journal of Voice and CoDAS (Communication Disorder, Audiology and swallowing – a journal of the Brazilian Society of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology). She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and students.
